EU: EU malt export certificates booked during 01.07.04 till 22.02.05 were 1.48 million tonnes, for the EU-25. Last year’s fixations at the same date were 1.66 million tonnes – for the EU-15. If the export shipments for the crop year 2004/05 reached 2.55 million tonnes, they would break even with the joint performance of the EU-15 and EU-10 of last year, but it rather (statistically) looks like exports of 2.3 million tonnes, a loss of 250,000 tonnes. Important markets like Brazil, Japan, Russia, Thailand are likely to purchase less malt from the EU.
